Job Description
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) established the Insider Threat Office (InTO) in 2014 to act as the central coordinating component for the FBI’s Insider Threat Detection and Prevention Program. The InTO leverages the specific strengths of existing insider threat programs and supports the centralization of technical, analytical, and administrative personnel and capabilities within the Bureau. InTO evaluates new tools required for a robust insider threat program, identifies key trends, and incorporates new data sets into analysis from various sources, working closely with internal administrative and investigative components to detect and deter insider threats.
Red Gate provides InTO with strategic planning, program development, and executive administrative support. Specifically, Red Gate executes technical objectives associated with data exploitation and leads software development projects for InTO and its customers. The Technical Writer creates and maintains a variety of documentation in support of InTO, including workflow documents, functionally specific technical templates, technical solution proposals, standards documents, presentation materials, and metric reports.
Responsibilities
- Produces maintains, enhances, and updates technical and non-technical software development program documentation;
- Works with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of product and documentation requirements;
- Determines the needs of end-users of technical documentation;
- Produces high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and satisfies the needs of the intended audience;
- Translates complex concepts and solutions into multiple types of documents (e.g., requirements, diagrams, and standard operating procedures [SOPs]);
- Documents core product specifications, SOPs, use cases, requirements, and technical designs;
- Creates process flow, networking, and infrastructure diagrams;
- Creates tutorials to help end users utilize a variety of applications;
- Studies product samples and interviews product designers and developers to understand document requirements;
- Works with InTO technical staff to streamline products and make them easier to use;
- Organizes and writes supporting documents for products;
- Uses photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding of subject systems and applications;
- Standardizes content across platforms and media;
- Gathers usability feedback from clients, designers, and manufacturers;
- Revises documents as requirements change;
- Prepares and maintains the following types of documents:
- Gantt charts;
- System design documents and user manuals;
- System assessment and authorization documents;
- Operating instructions and SOPs;
- Operation level agreements and service level agreements; and
- Service catalog descriptions and appendices.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field
- At least 5 years of experience writing, editing, and reviewing software documentation
- Ability to deliver high-quality documentation with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable using text and graphics
- Ability to analyze system documentation and translate it into technical documentation
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office and other desktop publishing software
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Basic familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle
- U.S. citizenship
Desired Skills/Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal government customers (DOJ/FBI preferred)
- Understanding of FBI operations, policies, and procedures
