OVERVIEW:
The Relief Valve Reliability Engineer ensures compliance with the Mechanical Integrity Quality Assurance (MIQA) Elements of the site Process Safety Management (PSM) program. This role develops and owns the test & inspection plans for Process Safety Management Critical Equipment to comply with the applicable statutory & regulatory requirements and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP), as well as any repairs or modifications made to equipment. Ensures that new equipment meets Quality Assurance plans. Ensures relief valve shop complies with National Board requirements. Provides guidance and direction for the Quality Control of MRO parts and the resolution of procurement issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead or participate in various audits such as 1st & 2nd Party PSM audits for MIQA, National Board audit of Relief Valve Shop
- Maintain appropriate relief device documentation including design records, travelers, and capacity calculations for Relief Valve stamped relief valve repairs.
- Maintaining the relief valve shop’s National Board accredited VR Stamp
- Responsible for the training program for new and certified relief valve shop mechanics
- Develops and owns the Site Relief Valve Manual and other MIQA related documents, and trains applicable resources in its use when required.
- Ensure that the test and inspection plans, as well as the repair and changes, are implemented following the MI program, and comply with applicable statutory & regulatory requirements and RAGAGEPs.
- Providing support on incident investigations and/or identification of failure modes.
- Support the project teams by developing and providing input into QA plans, and/or providing support on materials selection.
- Participate in design reviews for Management of Changes (MOCs) as requested by project teams.
- Lead RV Shop Scheduling meeting and participate and provide input into the CLEG (Central Leveraged Engineering Group) overall schedule.
- Provide support to site TAR (Turnarounds).
- Provide technical support on interpretation of RAGAGEPs (design, repair and/or modification)
- Review and update RV Shop and Site RV Procedures.
- Support resolution of blocked MRO
- Drive consistency across the site in various aspects of MIQA and reliability
- Develop or support reliability improvement initiatives to improve area uptime
- Follow-up on equipment failures, determine root causes and identify actions to prevent reoccurrence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of B.S. Engineering degree required. AAS/AS will be considered for applicants with 5+ years of related experience.
- 2-10 years of manufacturing or related experience (pressure relief, engineering, quality control, etc.) required.
- Capabilities Required for this Role (Knowledge Skills & Abilities):
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in the discipline assigned
- Knowledge of related plant operational practices such as Process Safety Management, mechanical integrity, quality assurance, and reliability engineering.
- Knowledge of corporate and national standards such as ASME Section VII, API Inspection Standards, and/or regulatory requirements for relief valves.
- Understanding of reliability practices and/or Risk-Based Inspection
- Understanding of RCFA, physical failure analysis
- Understanding of the Management of Change process
- Familiarity with the engineering, specification, fabrication, inspection and sourcing of pressure relief devices.
